For those who aren’t aware, I am a New England native. Before moving to the DC Metro area, I lived my entire life in Cranston, Rhode Island. One might assume that, being the nation’s smallest state, Rhode Island does not have any sore of wine industry presence. But if it did, it would be laughable….at best. Well shame on you for assuming! This weekend, be on the lookout for a write-up on the blog where I intend on taking you on a virtual tour through Rhode Island’s “Big 3” (no relation to the Boston Celtics prior lineup). Specifically, I will touch on Sakonnet Vineyards, Greenvale Vineyards, and Newport Vineyards. As I was reading the Providence Journal this morning, I came across an article about the recent sale of Sakonnet Vineyards to the owners of the rapidly growing jewelry conglomerate, Alex and Ani. Below is an excerpt, followed by a direct link, to the story. Happy Thirsty Thursday everyone!
“Designer Carolyn Rafaelian, owner of Alex and Ani, signed a purchase-and-sale agreement this week to buy Sakonnet’s 169-acre Little Compton property for $8.45 million from the couple who have owned New England’s oldest vineyard for the last 25 years.” (Providence Journal / Full Story)
