Finger Lakes Wine Alliance: 2011 Riesling Launch Event on Twitter #FLXwine

This year the Finger Lakes Wine Alliance held a media event over Twitter on three separate occasions to open, taste, and discuss the new 2011 vintage of Rieslings being released in the Finger Lakes Region. Over 20 Finger Lakes wineries participated in the virtual tasting and provided wines to 30+ media outlets for the event. Those wineries are:

CAYUGA LAKE REGION

KEUKA LAKE REGION

SENECA LAKE REGION

Part of my shipment, I was fortunate enough to receive Riesling from Red Newt Cellars, Wagner Vineyards, Fulkerson Winery, and Three Brothers Wineries of the 2011 vintage. I was only able to participate with two of the wines, though shortly there after I was able to sample the remaining two so that I can review them for the site. With that being said I give you Virginia Pour Houses 2011 Riesling Launch Event tasting notes.

Vintage: 2011
Tasting Notes:
Virginia Pour House Rating:
88 Points
Bright aromas of pear with faint hints of orange peel, citrus forward flavors with mineral notes, tapering off with subtle notes of granny smith apple lingering behind on the crisp, dry finish.

Wine: Red Newt Cellars Semi Dry Riesling

Virginia Pour House Rating: 87 Points
Tasting Notes:
Bright acidity and flourishing citrus notes on the nose, with a hint of sweetness on the front of the palate tapering off with an almost effervescent mouth feel. Tropical fruit (mango) with a blend of apricot, pineapple, and a touch of lime developing mid-palate and intensify substantially over the finish adding just a kiss of sweetness. Excellent!

Wine: Wagner Vineyards Finger Lake Dry Riesling

Price: $12.99
Vintage: 2011
Virginia Pour House Rating: 86 Points
Tasting Notes:
Citrus aromas, specifically lime dominate the nose while lemon flavors, light lime, and subtle hints of apricot and mineral taunt the taste buds. Crisp, clean, and dry but not lacking in citrus fruit on this Rieslings’ refreshing finish.

Wine: Fulkerson Semi-Dry Riesling

Very faint floral and wet stone aromas, with tropical fruit and lime notes on the palate diminishing swiftly over the palate. The finish is crisp and off-dry adding faint mineral flavors that linger prematurely.

Special thanks to the Finger Lakes Wine Alliance and all 20 of the participating wineries for a successful and eye opening event. Looking forward to next year!
