Some exciting news to report from this past weekend and, no, Quattro Goombas is still NOT making Virginia Wine and Jim Law has not offered a helping hand to other local wineries. Jaymie and I got engaged Sunday afternoon at Rappahannock Cellars in Huntley, Virginia. HUGE thanks to Allan Delmare as well as the entire Delmare family for helping facilitate this special day. Special thanks to Allan’s staff, including Nick and Phillip and Allan’s girlfriend Lauren. You all helped make our day special and memorable. We also wanted to thank the future Mr. and Mrs. Ryan and Amy Turner as well as Fred and Allison over at This Is Wine (my other half of the Two Yutes Wine Blog). What appeared to Jaymie to be a typical day of stopping by Rappahannock Cellars for a glass of wine turned out to be much, much more.
Allan invited us down to the cellar to check out some of the new offerings, while Nick placed a “business call” that required Allan to return to the tasting room. While Jaymie and I stood in the barrel room enjoying a glass of wine, some brief photos were snapped, during which I dropped down to one knee and made my move. Thankfully, Jaymie replied, “YES YES YES YES!” with a flurry of other non-English sounding words, followed by tears of joy. We finished our glasses and headed upstairs for a surprise greeting from Allan and Lauren, as well as Ryan, Amy, Fred and Allison. Allan and Rappahannock presented us with a special bottle of Meritage bearing a custom Congratulations label and some of Allan’s Truffled Plum Chutney Flatbreads for all to enjoy. We celebrated with what turned into many flat breads and bottles as well as some assorted cigars, followed by a trip to the local Yamafuji Sushi bar (that just so happens to sell Rappahannock wines to pair with the sushi). All and all it was a spectacular day and one to be remembered for many years to come. Again, we can’t thank Allan and Rappahannock enough as well as our wonderful friends for taking part in our special day. Salut!!
