Virginia Pour House Review: The 12 Beers of Christmas concludes today with a big stout from Oskar Blues Brewery. The can implies that this beer was brewed in Brevard, North Carolina, but Oskar Blues got started in the town of Lyons, Colorado in 1997. They were also the first craft brewery to can their beer and now all their beers are sold in that format. The beer pours a thick, black with a foamy cappuccino-colored head. There is a lot of big, bitter, cocoa in this one and it coats the palate. It checks in at 11.5% ABV and you can tell by the thickness of this thing that it’s a heavy beer. There is a slight boozy taste in the middle but overall it is pretty smooth despite the heaviness of the body. I had previously tasted this beer a few years ago but didn’t really remember much what it tasted like, just that I enjoyed it. Tasting it again jogs my memory. I am a fan of big, bitter, chocolately stouts and this one delivers. This is a fitting finale to the 12 Beers of Christmas.
