Quick Pour: Turkey Day Syrah Selections

90 Bedrock Wine Company North Coast Syrah 2012
(Sonoma Coast, California, USA)
Deep, inky purple color and uber floral aromatics tickled by hints of blackberry jam, this up-front and jammy blend of 5 vineyard sites produces concentrated flavors of blackberry and blueberry wrapped in a sheath of spice with gentle, gritty tannins and hints of floral creeping back in on the back palate. It leaves a juicy, blueberry flavor dangling on the back of the palate accented by a kiss of light pepper complimenting its overall lush, meaty texture and profile.

90 Hart Family Syrah Temecula Valley 2012
(Temecula Valley, California, USA)

(From a two-acre block in our family vineyard, planted in 1974 and 1975, we have produced this limited bottling of exceptional Syrah, the classic red wine grape of the Rhone Valley of southern France.): Deep, dark ruby hue sets the stage for this Syrah as it presents a bold, medium bodied wine with peppery tannins showing rich dark berry, sweet tobacco, hints of charred oak and a mouth watering lengthy finish. Complex with plenty of depth and plenty of tannin structure, this wine paired PERFECTLY with a deep dish sausage pizza from Chicago’s Lou Maltinati’s and showed excellent balance.

ABV: 14.1%

90 Domaine des Sources Vin de Pays du Gard Vieilles Vignes Syrah 2000

Dense, concentrated and well balanced flavors burst on the nose with black cherry, blackberry, forest brush and a hint of light mint. The palate is supple, full and elegant with rich flavors and chalky tannins that explode mid palate and finish with notes of leather and dried black fruit. A real gem and a wine that is drinking superbly right now.
