On the 6th day, I got the first local beer of this year’s 12 beers.
Producer: Monocacy Brewing Co.
Region: Frederick, MD
Style: Imperial Stout
Appearance: Pitch black, cloudy, small brown head
Aroma: Cocoa, malt, licorice, coffee
ABV: 8.6%
Virginia Pour House Notes: This local beer from Frederick pours pitch black with a small brown bead. The aroma is all dark malt, with notes of cocoa and coffee coming through. Lots of bitterness in the taste, with a nice strong kick of coffee. The coffee tastes like a darker roast, with a bold bitterness. There are also big notes of cocoa and sweet chocolate. The body is nice and thick with a smooth, velvety mouthfeel. This is a highly enjoyable, big, bitter stout with a really nice coffee kick. This is the first beer I have tried from Monocacy, but I’m now looking forward to trying more.
