Glen Manor Vineyards; 2012 Governor’s Gold Cup Winner

After all of what I read about Glen Manor from the owner being an absolute perfectionist (NEVER a bad thing) to the 2012 Governor’s Cup win with the 2009 Hodder Hill Meritage (which sadly was not available during my tasting) my expectations were set higher than the 1000-1300 foot elevation of the grape vines of Glen Manor. Regardless, after all the anticipation and lost attempts, it was go time. An absolute odd day weather wise, the second I drove on the Glen Manor side of the mountain, the sky seemed to open up to blue skies and warmer weather…of course no complaints there. Down the winding road…okay okay…what is it like…nobody cares about the winding roads with twists and turns because lets face it, Virginia is full of them. As you pull up the road of the Vineyard your faced with a gorgeous tasting room building (shown below). The room …

Celebrating DC Wine Week / VA Wine Month; Washington Wine Academy Event

Last Friday the Washington Wine Academy and DC Wine Week 2012 hosted an event at the Washington Wine Academy, pouring nothing but Virginia wines and 2012 VA Governor’s Cup winners. Over the course of the two hour event, three pouring stations, as well as a huge cheese and charcuterie spread, were packed into the small space that was populated by approximately 100 people.   My excitement mounted at the ability to taste all of the 2012 VA Governor’s Cup winners, especially the 2009 Hodder from Glen Manor, as it has been sold out for quite sometime. I was a bit disappointed that I missed the opportunity to try the RdV Rendevous 2009, as I still have a hard time coming to grips with the $40 tour/tasting fee and minimum $60 per bottle cost at RdV.  But, now, this was my chance to taste it for free. Sadly, they had poured all …

#WW Selection: Chester Gap 2010 Petit Manseng

This past weekend, after finally getting around to visiting Glen Manor Vineyards, I decided to take a swing by Chester Gap Cellars. My original intention was to stop by and grab a bottle of the 2009 Reserve Viognier, but to my disappointment they were completely out. So that being said, I decided to give in for a tasting; Can’t go wrong when the tasting fee is waved for purchasing a bottle and we all know how much I enjoy Chester Gap’s offerings. Regardless, the bottle I ended up picking up was the 2010 Petit Manseng. Higher in residual sugar than I drink regularly, I was still very much pleased with the overall quality of the wine. Being Wine Wednesday, I try to rotate a red and a white, off setting week to week. Tonight I was in the mood for some spicy Mexican food, and after defrosting some beef, there …
