While the palate is exentuated by bone-dry, peppery tannins that drive from front to back right down the middle of the palate. Tasting Event: Chester Wine Society’s Virginia Wine Vertical Tasting and Exploration

This past weekend, I was invited to pour and lead a discussion in Richmond, Virginia at a Chester Wine Society gathering. My fiance’s mother, Cindi, helped start the wine loving group as a way to explore and expand their knowledge of wines from all over the world, as well as bring together great people. We drove down from DC fresh off of our flight from California wine country and brought two vertical tastings: Chester Gap Cellars Viognier Reserves from 2010-2012 and 2011 Cabernet Francs from Rappahannock Cellars, Fabbioli Cellars, and Berry Hill Vineyard. I also included a bottle of the Rappahannock Cabernet Franc Reserve from 2010 to compare and contrast how vastly different vintage years could be. Quick Pour: Rappahannock Cellars Cabernet Franc Reserve 2010

Producer: Rappahannock Cellars Region: Northern Virginia Price: $36.50 Vintage: 2010 Varietals: 90% Cabernet Franc; 10% Merlot Winemaker Notes: Intense purity and volume of fruit. Loads of fruit on the nose with an abundance of varietal character. Rich, round, and extracted on the palate with a slight sweetness of fruit. Decant first. Virginia Pour House Notes:  A plethora of dark ripe fruit with a hint of oak and spice mingle on the nose with round and concentrated flavors on the palate of smooth dark fruit (black cherry and plum) and assorted berry notes. A faint touch of sweetness jazz up the back of the palate while spice and supple tannins provide  a deep warm lengthy finish leaving behind layer after layer of ripe dark fruits. An excellent drink now wine, that may stand strong for a couple more years. Virginia Pour House Rating 90 Points
