Saude Creek Vineyards; The new youngsters of the South (AmericanWineryGuide)

The STORY “The privately-owned vineyard bears about 22 acres on property and includes Vidal Blanc, Chardonnay, Petit Verdot and Chambourcin. The seven nearby off-site acres contain Merlot and Chardonel. As you pull into the property through the front gates, you follow the vineyard-lined roadway towards the enormous, dark wood-sided tasting and production facility. To the left is a covered production area with crush pad, and to the right is a gorgeous wrap-around covered patio that stretches all the way around the tasting room. The patio is lined with wooden Adirondack chairs and side tables. As you glance out into the vineyards, there are countless acres of vines – many newly planted and enclosed in greenhouses. Peering off of the back patio, the steep hillside is lined with countless additional acres and, to the right side, a fire pit with more Adirondacks surrounded the pit. The site is stunning.” (Read More) …

Check out an excerpt below, with the extended tasting notes just below that, and the full photo spread on our FaceBook Page (www.facebook.com/vapourhouse)! Enjoy! “A few weeks back, my fiance and I headed down to meet her family and family friends at Smith Mountain Lake. The car was packed with our belongings and, of course, a case of local wine. As we made our way down Route 29, we noticed a few wineries that I had yet to visit, including a couple close by Smith Mountain Lake. One was Hickory Hill and the other was not on any Virginia Wine maps. As it clearly had just opened to the public weeks ago, there was this gorgeous property greeting visitors with its steel carved sign bearing the name “Ramulose Ridge Vineyards.” After talking it over with the little lady, we agreed that we would swing by …

Rosemont Vineyards; An Up and Coming Star in Virginia Wine

After a weekend trip for a friend’s wedding in North Carolina, we decided to make a pit stop just over the border in Southern Virginia, to Rosemont Vineyards. Rosemont is located just a stone’s throw from Lake Gaston/Easton’s Ferry on the 450 acre Rosemont Estate, which has been in the Rose family since 1858. Many past generations farmed vegetables and dairy, as well as commodities such as tobacco, hay,  corn, peaches and cattle.  And now, ever since 2003, wine grape can be added to that list.  In 2003, 16,000 vines were planted with another 16,000 vines planted the following year; Around 22 acres of grape with a total consisting of about 16 different varietals. In 2006, construction of the winery, production facility, and tasting room began; and by September of 2007, Rosemont produced their first vintage. The winery building resembles an early American manor home.  Like we did, you would …
